Surf Hostel in El Palmar, Panama

Local tours with Angel

Discover the soul of El Palmar through the eyes of a local.

We believe the best way to experience Panama isn't through a guidebook. It’s through the stories and secret paths of the people who call this place home.

Meet Angel. He's 16 years old, was born and raised in San Carlos, and he knows every path, shortcut, tide pattern, and peaceful corner of the coastline. If you’d like to discover the calm, local side of our area, you’re welcome to join one of his walks.

Ask us at reception or send us a message on WhatsApp.

Golden hour at La Punta

Sunsets, cold drinks, and hidden shores.

A slow walk to one of El Palmar’s most beautiful viewpoints, at just five minutes from the lodge. Angel takes you to his favorite spot for golden hour, where the sky puts on a show every single evening.

We bring a couple of drinks, sit on the rocks or in the sand, and end the day the simple way: breathing, watching, unwinding. Nothing rushed. Nothing planned. Just a moment to enjoy.

When: from 16:30 - 18:00

San Carlos Walking Tour

Beach walks, local flavors, and the "Secret Shortcut."

During low tide, the coastline between El Palmar and San Carlos turns into a long stretch of smooth sand, perfect for a peaceful walk. Angel guides you to the fishermen of San Carlos and then to his favorite hidden eatery: a tiny, affordable spot serving the most authentic flavors in the area.

After picking up some fresh tropical fruit at the minimarket, you’ll cross the San Carlos River and return to El Palmar via a shortcut only locals know.

When: In the morning at low tide.

San Carlos River Escape

Hidden freshwater pools and the ultimate cool-down.

Just outside the village lies a peaceful river spot locals love. You'll find shady trees, cool fresh water, smooth rocks, and natural pools perfect for escaping the midday heat. It’s about a 30-minute walk from the lodge, and Angel knows the way.

Once there, you can swim, float, explore, or try a little rock jump if you feel like it. Most people simply relax in the shade and enjoy the calm of nature.

When: the best time is from 11:00 to 14:00, but you’re free to stay longer if you want. This place is easy to fall in love with.

These walks are kept small and personal to respect the environment and the local community. We don't believe in "mass tours"—just good company and great places.
